Meet David “Diamond” Bérubé, a twenty-nine year old with an addiction to dabbing and a dream. As the oldest person on his team, he has experience that his teammates could only dream of. Before signing with Citadel Gaming, he was with some well-known organizations like Cloud9, FlyQuest, and Dignitas. He takes his hard won knowledge and is looking to dominate the saltiest league in North America, the NACL.

Q: You’ve been playing in the scene for a year longer than I have been following. What makes you want to keep playing?
A: I love competing in the game and I’ve always loved the game even through the years. I’ve been playing since closed beta or so and barely took any breaks in that entire time so I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
Q: A lot of players who have had great success in solo queue and tier 2 seem to struggle with the promotion to tier 1. As someone who has played in both, what do you think is the hardest part of transitioning?
A: The practice schedule mixed up with the in person games make your days fly by and some days are completely wasted (waiting for many hours before match, shuttles etc.) and the pressure of the fans. It’s more cutthroat. The level of play is obviously better but the schedule itself was the hardest for me.
Q: Citadel is currently in a four-way tie for 4th place with a record of 2-2. Who do you feel is your toughest opponent? Who do you feel is the weakest?
A: For the weakest, probably Vancouver Impact while the strongest most likely Luminosity Gaming. Of the opponents we have already played, I would say the weakest are Dorado Gaming with Conviction being the strongest.
Q: What would you say is your biggest strength that you bring to your team? What is your biggest weakness?
A: I have a strong voice and I consider myself a strong lane opponent. However, I struggle with mages in the bottom lane.
Q: Who is someone that you look up to most in the scene? It could be another professional player, a coach, etc.
A: I respect Keria for his mechanical prowess and Vulcan a lot, since he’s my boy!
Q: If you could tell your younger self anything, what would it be?
A: I would say that disagreeing with someone doesn’t mean that the value of their opinion is less and to not cause unnecessary arguments. Also it’s ok to lose.
Q: If you and the other Citadel players were trapped in a burning building, who would you save first and why would it be Bradley?
A: I would kiss Philip on the lips and let Bradley figure it out personally.
